Catch and Release: Sturgeon fishing is an all year fishery. The Columbia and Willamette Rivers offer catch and release Sturgeon fishing opportunities year round. An average day of catch and release Sturgeon fishing means catching from 15 to 30 fish.
Oversize Sturgeon: Oversize sturgeon are fish over 6 feet long weighing 100 pounds plus. The big fish start moving into the Columbia River in May through July following the the yearly run of Shad. On a typical Oversize Sturgeon fishing trip you can expect to battle 2 to 5 of these monsters that range between 6 and 15 feet in length! All oversize fish must be released and can’t be removed from the water.
Keeper Sturgeon: There is a very limited harvest season. The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife regulates the size and when anglers can retain Sturgeon.
